Sustainability

Having a positive impact on the place where we live and the people we share this place with is important to us. Taking care of the land, water and others is critical to our future and the future of our children and grand children.

We take pride in our efforts:

The elimination of plastic water bottles. We have stainless steel water bottles in all our rooms for our guests to use during their visit.

We provide bulk shower products to eliminate the small, individual plastic bottles.

We are 100% solar with Tesla battery backup.

Energy-efficient lighting throughout the property and smart thermostats.

We have two EV charging stations for all makes of electric and hybrid cars.

We have installed low flow shower heads and toilets.

We ask guests to help reduce water usage by reusing their towels.

Our gardens and fruit tress provide produce for our guests. We plant and grow far more than we can use and donate hundreds of pounds of food to Farm to Pantry each year.

Meat and cheese products are sourced from local ranchers and farmers to support the local economy.

Our flower gardens and lavender field attract butterflies and bees.

Food scrapes and yard waste is composted and reused in our gardens.

We support Farm to Pantry whose MISSION is to bring together communities to end food injustice and reverse global warming by rescuing and sharing locally-grown food with those who have been systematically marginalized.

Come Glean with us!

Come Glean with Us and Farm to Pantry

Food insecurity is very real.  One in three people in Sonoma County are facing food insecurity.

Join us in the fields, and help glean so no food is left behind.

Farm to Pantry, www.farmtopantry.org, offers the opportunity to come together, so we can cultivate good health and community, and support environmental sustainability by rescuing locally-grown food and sharing with those in need.

Stay with us May - October and spend 3+ hours on a local farm gleaning with Farm to Pantry then return to The Gables Inn for a locally sourced lunch in our vineyard, served with a glass of local wine.  The cost for lunch is $75.00 per person with a portion of the proceeds going back to Farm to Pantry.

“Farm to Pantry is committed to rescuing food that would otherwise go wasted and getting it to people in need. The food is out there; all we have to do is go get it. No one should be left behind.”

— DUSKIE ESTES, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Why Staying at a Bed & Breakfast is better..... and safer!

This year sure has been a wild ride. It seems like one thing after another has hit humanity, from Coronavirus to wildfires ignited by epic lighting storms. Can we catch a break?

Fortunately for us at The Gables Wine Country Inn, we were not affected by the recent fires. Gratefully, we’ve been spared here at the Inn. Our hearts go out to fellow residents in the county who have been significantly impacted.

As an important reminder: “People can grow from adversity as much as they do from prosperity.” — Andrew Yang

Thankfully, The Gables is located out of reach from fires, and our spacious and clean accommodations make for a comfortable break from quarantine.

During this time of Covid-19 safety protocols, we are open and following all of the proper requirements. Our property is smaller in comparison to hotels, so there are fewer people coming and going with less chance of spreading the virus. Our housekeepers are long term employers, like family with a vested interest in keeping the inn operational. We, the owners, live on the property, therefore understand maintaining a safe environment is critical to our own health. Our efforts ensure the highest levels of cleanliness and sanitation for our guests. For social distancing, the Gables Inn has 3+ acres to keep distance from other guests. Breakfast is served outdoors either on the deck or in the vineyards, providing ample space for walking, sitting and eating at a distance. Whether you’re sitting under the redwood trees, in the vineyard or strolling the lavender garden, you will find yourself in an outdoor sanctuary away from the city crowds.

Come take a trip to the countryside and travel back in time to the mid-1800’s when The Gables Estate was built by some of the finest quality craftsmanship of its time. Here, you get the special treatment; sleep in one of the mansion’s bedrooms fit for a king and queen, and awake to a freshly made, gourmet, three-course breakfast cooked and served by the Innkeepers, Larry and Pam Willis. Stroll through three acres of bliss, under the canopy of Redwood trees, surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, and abundant wildlife occupying the Santa Rosa Valley. Enjoy our lavender field and garden to observe various pollinators collecting nectar from the flowers. Deer, turkey, quail, rabbits, and barn owls grace our property, making frequent appearances to guests! Be sure to spot the two barn owls living in the 165 year-old Redwood barn.

Unlike hotels, vacation rentals and AirB&B’s, the owners live on-site and interact with their guests to help ensure they have an enjoyable stay. They know many winery owners and local chefs on a personal basis and do not recommend places they would not go to themselves. Innkeeper Larry Willis is a tourism ambassador for Sonoma County, therefore they provide guests with recommendations fit for the best experiences possible. On another note, the price to stay at The Gables is a flat rate with no hidden fees, unlike some hotels and AirBnB’s.

The breakfast we serve is a true culinary experience that begins fresh from our garden produce, locally sourced fruits, eggs and sustainably raised local meats. Tripadvisor has awarded The Gables Wine Country Inn 5-stars for 8 years, and this year we were designated 2020 Best of the Best People Choice Award. We could not be more proud and thank all our guests who provided us with such wonderful reviews! Our highest ratings on Tripadvisor rave about the breakfast we serve. Meals are not repeated, unless otherwise requested. Some people request to have our infamous Breakfast BLT because it is a consistent crowd pleaser. Unlike standard hotels, we do not have a buffet service, instead breakfast is served to your bedroom door or in the main dining areas. Meal choices are accrued from a collection of chef Larry’s favorites recipes, coupled with his own twist on local chefs' dishes. Some of our guest favorites include the Breakfast BLT (most requested) and Cloud Soufflé. We offer special themed breakfast for certain holidays, such as Green Eggs and Ham on Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Additionally, fresh baked goods are made in house by Chef Pam, with the addition of fresh, local and seasonal fruit. This is the place to vacation if you are looking to relax and be treated to an experience unlike any other.

We have recently teamed with Tesla to offer two Tesla models that are available for a test drive.  It’s a silly process.  Log into tesla.com/drive and enter the requested information. You will receive an e-mail response then everything is handled with your cell phone and a Tesla representatives.  Have we provided enough reasons why The Gables Wine Country Inn should be next on your getaway list?

Here’s one more: all guests are welcomed to their stay with the Innkeeper’s favorite Sonoma County wine that will be sure to leave a tasteful first impression.

We hope to have you stay with us! And, don’t forget to consider us for micro-weddings as we are now offering small-scale weddings on the property. Follow this link for more information!

Stay safe, positive, and hopeful.

Micro Weddings

“It’s not how you marry that counts, but who you are marrying.”

The Gables Wine Country Inn owner, Pam Willis said it best. This is always true, and is especially so during this time when all large events have been cancelled (due to the pandemic). However, many couples do not want to wait any longer to tie the knot. For some, they have waited long over a year, or more, in advance for their wedding reservation. This is their special moment/time because love never gets “put on hold.”

For those who are willing and able to go forward with a smaller wedding ceremony (per recent protocols), The Gables Estate is the perfect venue. With its enchanting and historic Victorian mansion, surrounded by Redwoods and Wine Country views, there’s nothing more romantic and serene as the timeless atmosphere of The Gables. Built in 1877 by a successful cattle rancher, the mansion was constructed with Gothic-Revival architecture and Victorian-style interior. All from the success of a rags-to-riches family. The closest building to the mansion during the time it was built was the Rancho Petaluma Adobe, 13 miles away, which was built in 1836. High ceilings, wide-moldings and keyhole doorways and windows makeup the mansion, overall demonstrating some of the highest quality craftsmanship of its time. Still today, nothing can compare to the quality of The Gables Estate. Placed on the National Register, this mansion was built to last, thus bestowing the same good fortune to all who wed here.

This location is already fit to host a small ceremony, accommodating everyone spaciously and comfortably. There are several different options for the elopement: underneath tall Redwood trees in the backyard of the mansion, inside the barn where owls overlook the ceremony, in the vineyard adjacent to the house, and much  more! The feeling of the space here is relaxed, intimate and personal. Owners, Larry and Pam Willis, host The Gables Inn as a labor of love and offer their extraordinary cooking for the wedding reception, if needed. Breakfast, the day after would be served in the main house, or delivered to the private cottage where the bride and groom will rest for the night. The owners of The Gables are happy to help customize the wedding package as desired.

Covid-19 Cleaning and Procedures

For the foreseeable future, The Gables Wine Country Inn will implement new and enhanced safety and cleaning procedure to help ensure the health and well being of our guests.  While the lodging experience is going to feel different for the time being, we hope that these measures provide a level of comfort and security to each of you who stay with us.

Monitoring the Health of our Staff

We and our employees will have our temperature checked at the beginning of each day.  Anyone developing an above normal temperature we either be send home, or in our case self quarantined. We will be recording this information and keeping it on file. If any of our employees are feeling ill or showing any symptoms such as shortness of breath or a dry cough they will be required to stay home until they do not have any symptoms for 3 days. All of our employees will be required to wear masks while at work. Our housekeepers will wear gloves and masks while refreshing or cleaning your room and those items will be replaced before moving to a different room.

Sanitizing and Cleaning of General Areas

In public spaces, we will be requiring our staff to thoroughly treat high-touch surface areas with hospital-grade disinfectants. This cleaning will be done on an increased regularly scheduled basis. The Employee restroom will now be locked at all times. Guests will have to use the restroom in their room once they have checked in. Prior to check-in, guests may ask the innkeeper for a key for the restroom. Our staff will be monitoring the use of the public restroom so we can ensure that they are checked and disinfected after each use.  The procedures used to clean and sanitize public areas will be the same as those used in the individual guest rooms.

Check-in procedure

Hand sanitizer and masks will be available outside the front door.  All guests are required to wear a mask while in the public areas of the inn, hallways, Parlor, etc.  Our check-in process will allow for 6 foot distancing between guests and innkeepers. The room keys will be wiped down and sanitized before and after each guest or each time a staff member comes in contact with these items. If a guest prefers to self check-in, please advise us 24 hours before arrival and will will provide you with the procedures for getting into the Inn and directions to your room. Our Select registry kiosk will be sanitized before and after each use. Paper materials that are distributed at check in such as maps and menus will be recycled after each guest departs. Our staff will remove all of these items from the guest rooms after check-out so that we can ensure all of the materials handed to guests at check in are new.

Guest Room/Amenities Sanitizing Procedures

We will be cleaning all surfaces thoroughly with approved disinfectants followed by a sanitizing solution. We will also be placing disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer in each room for guests’ personal use. Fabric covering like couches, chairs, draperies and bed skirts will be sanitized with an electrostatic sanitizer like those used on commercial aircraft. The Gables Wine Country Inn gift center items can be viewed on our website. Any item you wish to purchase and take with you will be sanitized and placed in a clean bag or box for your convenience.

Our staff will continue to refresh your room on a daily basis unless otherwise requested. Our staff cannot enter a room while occupied.

Food and Beverage Experience

Breakfast will continued to be served with some modification to ensure safe distancing. Depending on the occupancy level during your visit, we may serve in multiple locations, like the dining room and back deck. In some cases, we will stagger seating times to assist in maintaining a proper flow through the kitchen to the serving area.

As always, our guests will be offered a welcome glass of Sonoma County wine.  This maybe enjoyed in your room or on the grounds. Glassware can either be left in the room, or in a tray on the back deck.

WE AND THE STAFF AT THE GABLES WINE COUNTRY INN WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED PATRONAGE. WE LOVE WHAT WE DO AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING ALL OF YOU SOON!

Recipe Feature - Cloud Soufflé

Our guests always "ooh" and "ahh" when we bring out this light and fluffy soufflé, so today we are sharing the recipe with you in our first recipe feature! Keep checking back, there will be more!

Ingredients:

Butter or Pam for lining the ramekin

4 eggs, room temperature and separated

Sea salt or coarse salt

2 Tablespoon cream

1 Tablespoon butter, melted

6 Tablespoons grated cheddar cheese

4 - 5 cherry tomatoes, chopped

1/4 shallot, chopped

Fresh ground black pepper

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 400-degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly butter two 6-inch ramekin.

Using your electric mixer, beat the egg whites until they just start to become stiff. Add salt and continue beating the egg whites until they form stiff peaks.

Sauté the shallot and tomato until the shallot is translucent, about 3 minutes.

Spoon 3/4 of the egg whites into the ramekin reserving some for the top. With the back of a soup spoon, make a well in the middle of the egg whites, pushing the egg whites up the sides of the ramekin.  Add the shallot/tomato mixture then carefully slide the two egg yolks into the hole. Add a crush of freshly ground pepper then top with the cheddar cheese. Pour in the butter and cream. Smooth the remaining egg whites back over the top to form a dome.

Bake approximately 12 minutes. The top should be lightly golden, and when you break the crust, the yolks and cream should be soft and hot.

Serve with some crusty bread to dip into the yolks and cream.
